Threshold
Wooden serving spoon, milkweed silk (from more than 700 seed tufts), baby doll pillow, wood, glue
2022
3.75" x 16.75" x 6.5"
Threshold was made using silk from the seedpods of common milkweed plants. More than 700 seed tufts create the "fur" of the spoon. The piece speaks to the childhood experience of being asked to respond to a situation we're too young to assimilate. It prompts its viewer to do something, but what? The turmoil and anticipation of not knowing is at odds with the invitation to engage. If I take this thing, of what am I partaking?
